Exchange 2016 Uninstall Fails on Mailbox Server Role: Client Access Service

Recently I battled with this headache of an Uninstall of an Exchange 2016 server. In the Exchange Install Logs this is the error that you are seeing.

ERROR ( message:Cannot find GLOBAL MODULE object with identifier “exppw:)

To resolve this error, you can follow the below steps.

  1. Copy the following file from a working Exchange Server: “C:\windows\Systems32\Inetsrv\config\applicationhost.config”
  2. Replace the applicationhost.config file on the Exchange server that does not want to uninstall.
  3. Restart the uninstall process again.

Sharing is caring!

Was able to copy the 2019 applicationhost.config and levy that to decommission our 2016 servers!
